Itinerary for our Family Holiday In Lithuania (As Featured In The Guardian)
DAY 1 KAUNAS
Kaunas Airport To Rural Farmstead
You will be met by our driver at Kaunas airport and driven to our delightful rural farmstead near Kaunas.
Rural Countryside Farmstead Nr Kaunas
This is our quaint, magical rural farmstead near Kaunas, where you will feel a world away from everyday life and have the opportunity to switch off. Your hosts, Violeta and Zigmas, will make you feel more than welcome and have made this place pretty special for couples and families alike. The traditional style of the woodwork and craftmanship is a delight, and they offer various activities for you to enjoy; pottery workshop, bread-baking, crafts, wine tasting, a visit to the stables, or enjoy relaxing in their bathhouse. Idyllic and charming.
DAY 3 KAUNAS - ANYKSCIAI
Rural Farmstead To Anyksciai Via Treetop Walk Private Transfer
Our driver will pick you up from your accommodation and drive you up to Anyksciai. On the way you will stop for a visit to the enjoyable Treetop Walk and admire the Lithuanian countryside from above! Then it is on to your accommodation in Anyksciai.
Anyksciai Spa Hotel
Anyksciai Spa hotel is a lovely 4* spa hotel nestled in the Lithuanian forest, here you can unwind and recharge enjoying their spa and treatments. Just as invigorating is exploring the unspoilt nature surrounding the spa hotel, including some great activities; hire bikes and cycle to the narrow gauge railway Siaurukas, or to the fascinating horse museum, in summer you can toboggan down Kalita Kalnas, or ski if you are there in the snowy winter months. The charming town of Anyksciai is well worth exploring too. A great base for sightseeing, spa treatments, activities and nature.
DAY 5 ANYKSCIAI - DRUSKININKAI
Anyksciai - Druskininkai Via Grutas Park
Our driver will pick you up from your accommodation and drive you to Druskininkai. On the way you will visit Grutas Park. Grutas Park is a fascinating and unique open-air museum of old Soviet statues, with a well-stocked museum too, animal park and restaurant. Weird and wonderful and well worth a visit!
Contemporary Self-catering Cottages
Contemporary self-catering cottages in the centre of Druskininkai, a beautiful base for exploring Druskininkai. Here you have a comfortable cottage to relax in, and hopefully sunny warm weather to enjoy the summer terrace too. This is a nice chance to try self-catering in Lithuania, visiting a local shop to buy provisions and of course you will be able to enjoy eating out at various cafes and restaurants too for very reasonable prices.
The self-catering cottages are very well equipped, and with a very helpful and friendly manager to hand should you need help!
DAY 6 DRUSKININKAI
Druskininkai Walking Tour With Private Guide
Your guide will meet you at your accommodation and take you for a 2 hour walking tour of Druskininkai. This is a great way to get familiarised with Druskininkai and learn about it's history and what there is to do during your stay. Remember to ask where the best cafes and restaurants are!
DAY 7 DRUSKININKAI - KAUNAS
Druskininkai To Kaunas Via Rumsiskes
Our driver will pick you up from your accommodation in Druskininkai and drive you to Rumsiskes open-air ethnographic museum. Rumsiskes is a charming collection of traditional houses and farmsteads laid out in picturesque landscape, and during the peak season artisans are creating crafts live for you to watch, with many artefacts on display. Step back in time to Rumsiskes, it is charming.
4* old town hotel
Centrally located inbetween the city centre and Kaunas Old Town, this is a perfect location in the heart of everything for day and night, and easy to pop back to your hotel for a rest during sightseeing. Located in a lovely historic red brick building, on a cobbled side street in Kaunas, the hotel has an excellent bar, cafe, restaurant, and we think it does a superb Apple Pie!
Private transfer from your hotel to Kaunas airport. End of your Lithuanian holiday!
Reviews for our Family Holiday In Lithuania (As Featured In The Guardian)
"I just wanted to thank you and all at Baltic Holidays for a superb holiday. From the minute we arrived, to the minute we left everything ran like clockwork. All of the drivers and guides we had were great…really informative and excellent English speakers which meant that we learned so much more about the country than we would have done if we’d travelled independently. Especial thanks to Linas for looking after us so well and Violeta and Zigmus for a magical experience at their farmstead.
I was able to find the house that my Mum lived in before escaping as a refugee in 1940 and, most surprisingly, the Spa hotel we stayed in in Anksciai was in the clearing in the forest where my grandparents summer house had once stood! All in all, it was a very memorable trip. I’m sure we will be back in touch for another adventure soon!" Chipp family, August 2016
"Just wanted to say a huge thankyou - we had the most fantastic time! It was really lovely. Everyone was so friendly, and Lithuania itself is overwhelming - so beautiful, with such an interesting history. It's a really fairytale place, and we loved every minute of it. Violeta and Zigmas in particular were absolutely wonderful hosts, and Linas was hugely helpful - thank you so much for all the time you spent organising it all. I sometimes find it hard to please both my kids on holiday, but they both had a wonderful time, which is testament to your skills in putting the holiday together! I think we were also particularly lucky with the weather, by all accounts, and I got some really lovely photos!" Nelson family, October 2015
