Norway in a Nutshell
'Norway in a Nutshell' is an iconic itinerary crossing from Oslo to Bergen, or vice-versa. It includes travel by train, bus, and boat through wonderful Norwegian scenery. One of the highlights is experiencing the Flamsbana Railway, one of the most scenic rail journeys in the world. You can make this itinerary your own, by adding activities and excursions or perhaps stay longer to explore more. There is no guide on this tour, you travel on your own, but your accommodation, transport tickets, and airport transfers are all prebooked for you, the connections are all in close proximity, and you have the support of our local team should you need it.

Day 1 - Oslo
Transfer From Oslo Airport To Your Hotel
Our driver will meet you in the arrivals hall and drive you to your hotel (they will be holding a sign with your name on it). Welcome to Oslo!
You have today and tomorrow to explore Oslo. Oslo is really rather unassuming, laid back, and lovely, full of fantastic museums and gateway to the most wonderful scenery and itineraries exploring Norway. Oslo comes to life in summer with lots of street entertainment and people hanging out enjoying the sunshine and long days. In winter it is buzzing on the inside, with vibrant entertainment and time to make the most of those fantastic museums.
A trip over to Bygdoy museum area will open your eyes to polar exploration, Norwegian folklore, Viking ships, and the fascinating life of Thor Heyerdahl with his Kon-Tiki adventures. One of our favourite collections of museums in one city! All are accessed by a charming ferry ride with views of the Oslo waterfront too. Day 3 - Oslo to Flam
Travel on the Flamsbana Railway
After breakfast at the hotel, morning departure from Oslo by train to Myrdal, which will take about five hours. Your tickets will have been prepurchased for you (standard class with seat reservation). In Myrdal, change trains and board the well renowned Flåm Railway. The flåmsbana passes through wild and beautiful scenery with waterfalls and steep mountainsides. This is one of the most scenic rail journeys in the world, a pure Norway experience. Overnight in your hotel in Flam.
Day 4 - Flåm - Gudvangen - Voss - Bergen
Travel by boat, bus & train
Breakfast at the hotel. Before continuing on your tour, use the morning to discover Flåm and its surroundings. In the afternoon, board the ferry taking you over the Aurlandsfjord and Nærøyfjord to Gudvangen. From Gudvangen, the journey continues by bus through the Nærøyfjord Valley and passes the Stalheimskleiva with its 13 steep hairpin bends. The last part of the excursion will be by train from Voss to Bergen, Norway’s second-largest city and the world’s only city surrounded by seven mountains and seven fjords. Your transport tickets will have been prepurchased for you. Overnight in Bergen.
Day 5 - Bergen
Exploring Bergen
Bergen is the capital of the fjords and surrounded by some of the world's most majestic scenery, Bergen also has its own beauty in architecture with an iconic waterfront of wharves and Hanseatic buildings. Bergen has a lovely atmosphere and you must make time to enjoy some of the fine restaurants where fish doesn't come much fresher!
Day 6 - End of your tour
Transfer From Your Hotel To Bergen Airport
If you are leaving here to fly home, our driver will pick you up from your hotel and drive you to the airport. Or perhaps you are flying onto another destination for more exploring, or taking a Hurtigruten cruise north up the coast of Norway to the Arctic? Hi Phil and Jurga, We want to thank-you and all the guides, drivers etc. for organising such an amazing and unforgettable trip for us. We had a brilliant time and came home with a completely different and very positive perspective of the Baltic States and Finland.
