Itinerary for Scandinavian Capitals Free Time Tour

Scandinavian Capitals Free Time Tour

The perfect introduction to the capitals of Scandinavia, with a relaxed itinerary with lots of freetime to explore the cities, watch the world go by from a cafe, visit some museums or shops - feel the Scandinavian lifestyle and hopefully a bit of 'hygge' too.

There is the option to add on some sightseeing tours in each city, discuss your interests with us and we can recommend all sorts from active tours to cosy foodie tours.

Day 1 - COPENHAGEN

Arrival in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. In this charming city one thousand years of history awaits you in the medieval streets; the same streets walked on by every generation of the world's oldest royal family, the same streets and canals which have inspired artists for centuries and been home and workplace to meticulous craftsmen and famous designers. Accommodation at First Hotel Vesterbro or similar (2 nights)

Day 2 - COPENHAGEN

After breakfast at the hotel, you can explore the city at your leisure. The city offers many attractions such as the famous Tivoli amusement park, the statue of the Little Mermaid, the Gefion Fountain, the Royal Palace Amalienborg and many more. Copenhagen is also famous for its cafes and bakeries.

Day 3 - COPENHAGEN TO OSLO

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and morning in Copenhagen. Departure from Copenhagen in the late afternoon by ferry to Oslo. Overnight on board DFDS Seaways in a 2-berth outside cabin.

Day 4 - OSLO

Morning arrival in Oslo
Oslo is beautifully situated at the head of the Oslo Fjord and surrounded by wooded hills. We highly recommend taking the museum ferry to Bygdoy where you can visit the Viking Ship museum, Fram museum, Kontiki museum or ethnographic museum. Even the ferry ride is a fun way to see Oslo from the water.
Comfort Hotel Grand Central or similar (2 nights)

Day 5 - OSLO

Day at leisure in Oslo. After a hearty Norwegian breakfast at the hotel it is time to explore Oslo. We recommend the Oslo Panorama Sightseeing tour, a 2 ½ hour tour though the central parts of the city. Guiding is done in seven different languages through individual headphones. The tour stars in the city centre and continues with a short walking tour of Vigeland Sculpture Park and a photo stop at the Holmenkollen Ski Jump before ending at City Hall.

Day 7 - OSLO TO STOCKHOLM

Breakfast at the hotel and departure from Oslo by train to Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. Stockholm is built on 14 islands and you are never far from the water. Well-preserved medieval buildings stand alongside modern architecture, and just outside the city, an archipelago of 24,000 islands is waiting to be explored. Sights of interest are the Vasa Museum, the Skansen Open Air Museum, City Hall, the Old Town (Gamla Stan) and many more.
Accommodation at Clarion Hotel Sign or similar (3 nights).

Days 8 & 9 - STOCKHOLM

Enjoy your days at leisure to discover the beautiful and vibrant city of Stockholm. We recommend a cruise to the Stockholm archipelago or a sightseeing tour by bus, as well as a visit to the hip neighborhood of Södermalm. For shopping, Norrmalm is the place to visit.

Day 10 - STOCKHOLM TO HELSINKI

Overnight Ferry From Stockholm To Helsinki
Your tickets will have been pre-purchased and detail your ticket class and sailing times. Please note this ferry makes a short service stop at Aland (Mariehamn).

Day 11 - HELSINKI

Morning arrival in Helsinki. After breakfast on board, you will discover the Finnish capital and its historical center around the Senate, the Presidential Palace, the City Hall and the harbor area with the Market Square and the beautiful Uspenski Cathedral. You can stroll through the Esplanade Park and the most important shopping streets towards the parliament, the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma and finally to Temppeliaukio Church, also known as the rock church. Hotel Sokos Hotel Helsinki or similar (2 nights).

THE STAFF AT BALTIC HOLIDAYS ARE PROFESSIONAL, KNOWLEDGEABLE AND EXCEEDINGLY FLEXIBLE

My husband and I worked with the exceptional staff at Baltic Holidays to plan two remarkable tailor-made vacations: One to Russia, Finland and Estonia, the other to Eastern Europe visiting Bucharest, Budapest and Prague. The accommodations were perfect and located in convenient places in the cities we visited. The guides we had for day trips both in and out of the cities were knowledgeable, smart and each and everyone went out of their way to make our visit wonderful. We were warmly greeted at the airport and bus stations with staff that took us to our hotels and delivered us back on time and in comfort. Baltic Holidays went the extra mile to help us get tickets to concerts, operas and even the Moscow Circus. But best of all the staff at Baltic Holidays are professional, knowledgeable and exceedingly flexible. We spend lots of time communicating on e-mail about different trip options until we got our plans just right. We feel like the staff are friends now and look forward to working with them again on our next adventure.

WE HAVE LEARNT SO MUCH ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE FIVE COUNTRIES

Dear Jurga, We arrived home safe and sound on Saturday afternoon and, now, our minds are full of wonderful memories of a very enjoyable trip. Thank you very much for organising such a comprehensive holiday for us. Everything went like clockwork: guides were excellent, erudite and solicitous and good travelling companions, excellent selection of hotels -a faultless holiday. We have learnt so much about the history of the five countries and have met many friendly and welcoming people. Once again thank you for all your work.

MR CYSTER, GRAND BALTIC PRIVATE TOUR (VILNIUS, RIGA, TALLINN, HELSINKI, ST PETERSBURG, MOSCOW), SEPTEMBER 2017

GREAT TO KNOW WE COULD CONTACT JURGA AT ANY TIME

Thanks we had a great trip, the hotels you picked for us were lovely, good locations and interesting buildings. The guide in Helsinki was really nice and took us to some places that we would not have thought of, including the university library building. Most of all it was great to know we could contact Jurga at any time so I would like to especially thank her for her help.

VERY HAPPY WITH THE WAY YOU HAD ORGANISED OUR HOLIDAY

Dear Sarah, We really enjoyed ourselves. Helsinki and Tallinn are both great places to visit in very different ways. We loved the laid back atmosphere in Helsinki and walking by the sea right by the city centre. Tallinn is stunningly beautiful. Every corner you go round brings another amazing view. We were very happy with the way you had organised our holiday. The hotels were both excellent and all the pick ups were right on time. All in all we had a great time and enjoyed it from start to finish.
