When planning a trip to Estonia, you need to think about what national holidays or festivals you would like to avoid or attend. There is nothing better than the buzz of a festival, pop up crafts stalls, and street entertainment, unless you are planning a quiet getaway. And if you fancy visiting during a national holiday, it is best to check what is open and closed before you book your flights.

Below is a list of the main holidays and festivals in Estonia to help you plan your trip.

November 7-23: Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival

December 24-25: Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (expect some restaurants & attractions to be closed)

December 26: Boxing Day (double check opening times for venues)

December 31: New Year's Eve (early closing for attractions, dinner reservations or events to be pre-booked)

January 1: New Year's Day (some venues and attractions will be closed)

February 10-26: Tallinn Winter Festival

February 24: National Day (marks Estonia's 1918 declaration of independence)

March 5-7: Meremess (a maritime fair in Tallinn)

April 3-6: Easter weekend (Good Friday and Easter Sunday are commonly known as lihavõtted or munadepühad in Estonian; expect some venues to be closed)

April 9-12: Tallinn Music Week

May 1: May Day (Kevadpüha is the day after Walpurgis Night when Estonia celebrates the arrival of spring with folk traditions and street parties, expect a quiet day)

May 15: Tallinn Day (expect arts events and street performances)

May 16: Museum Night - Muuseumioo

June 3-7: Baltica 2026 Folklore Festival

June 5-7: Old Town Days, Tallinn (festival atmosphere in old town)

June 23: Victory Day (celebrates the 1919 battle in Estonia's War of Independence, expect some venues to be closed)

June 23-24: Midsummer's Eve and Midsummer's Day (commonly known as Jaanipäev). Expect closures and a quiet old town as people celebrate in the countryside and celebrations can last all night long)

July 8-18: Parnu Music Festival

July 23-26: Viljandi Folk Music Festival

July 30-August 9: Birgitta Musical Theatre Festival, Pirita Convent, Tallinn

August: Narva Opera Festival

August 8-9: Tartu Food and Wine Festival

August 18-September 18: Tallinn Fringe Festival

August 20: Day of Restoration of Independence (celebrates Estonia's 1991 independence, expect some closures)

August 22-29: Tallinn Chamber Music Festival

August 22: Ironman Tallinn 2026

September 18-19: Wandering Lights Festival, Kadriorg Park, Tallinn

Estonian Song & Dance Festival

The next Estonian Song & Dance Festival (Laulupidu) will be held 29 June to 1 July 2029. We will be offering a small group tour! In the meantime, some excellent online resources about the festival include the excellent History of the Estonian Song Celebration , and The Singing Revolution film.
