Tallinn and Helsinki make the perfect double city break. Separated by the gulf of Finland and a short ferry ride, these two cities are a charming couple!
Helsinki is uber-cool with contemporary design leading the style-statement of the city. The Oodi library and Amos Rex museum are two examples of the cutting-edge architecture and culture experiences you will find in Helsinki. The food scene is outstanding, and a day trip out of town into the countryside will give you a taste of rural life in Finland that matters to the Finns big time. Somehow the Finnish strike a smart balance between work & play and city & nature.
In contrast to Helsinki, Tallinn is more compact and centred around the quaint old town of cobbled streets and courtyards. Amongst the historial old town, you will find boutiques, museums, galleries and cosy cafes, with a hi-tech meets hipster vibe to the city. The food scene is also exceptional inTallinn, you are in for a gastronomic treat on this tour, and even better the prices are very attractive too.

Day 1 - Tallinn
Upon arrival at the airport, our driver will meet you in the arrivals hall and drive you to your hotel (they will be holding a sign with your name on it). Welcome to Estonia!
Day 2 - Tallinn
Tallinn 3 Hour Private Walking Tour
You will be met in the reception area of your hotel by your English speaking guide for your 3 hour privately guided walking tour Tallinn
The tour includes both the upper old town Toompea and the lower old town that was a member of the Hanseatic League. In the upper old town you shall see: Palace Square with the baroque Toompea Palace now the Parliament House and the 19th century St.Alexander Nevsky Cathedral; then the oldest church in Tallinn the 13th century Cathedral of St.Mary the Virgin or the Dome Cathedral, a nice panorama from one of the view platforms, the18-19th century dwelling houses. In the lower old town you shall see the 15th century late gothic Town Hall the 15th century pharmacy, medieval guild and merchant’s houses. You also visit the area of the former Dominican monastery with picturesque artists workshops in medieval houses. You will also visit parts of the old ring work with towers /Kiek in de Kök ,etc/and pass through many romantic old streets like Long and Short Leg and more.
Day 3 - Tallinn Lahemaa National Park Day Trip
Lahemaa National Park Private Tour
Your guide will pick you up at your hotel at 10am and take you for a privately guided day trip to Lahemaa - one of Europe's biggest national parks. After an hours drive we will visit your selection of the following places according to weather and time:
Palmse manor house
One of the most grandiose manor house ensembles in Estonia and a wonderful overview of Estonian manor life and architecture through the centuries.
Altja fisherman’s village
Altja is a typical traditonal Baltic seaside village, with all of its houses stretching along one street. The Uustalu and Toomarahva farms at Altja are typical coastal farms and have been restored by Lahemaa National Park. On the point at Altja you can see the fishing net sheds which were reconstructed on the basis of old photographs and the memories of the villagers. The village also has its own swing and tavern, where you can try local dishes.)
Käsmu village and peninsula
Käsmu is a beautiful small coastal village set in the Lahemaa National Park on the north coast of Estonia. It is steeped in maritime history and known in Estonia as the "Captains Village". Käsmu was also used by, and home to, many smugglers of salt and fish in the past century. Between 1884-1931 it was home to the Estonian School of Navigation (or Nautical School), which is now replaced by the welcoming and interesting Käsmu Sea Museum.
Viinistu art museum
Viinistu Art Museum has permanent exhibitions of both classical and modern Estonian art, and often hosts international travelling exhibitions.
Viru bog walking trail
The Viru Bog Nature Trail is a 3.5 kilometre nature trail that consists of a wooden walkway built right on top of one of Estonia's many bogs (approximately one third of Estonia is wetland).

If you wish to have Lunch at a local home restaurant in Lahemaa national park (food and drinks payable locally) this is possible and it is same price as the regular Lahemaa day trip quoted in this proposal however you will see fewer places in Lahemaa and have a longer lunch break. It is also possible to arrange a cookery lesson at the home restaurant, so you can learn about local produce and cook with a talented local chef. Perfect for foodies!
Day 4 - Tallinn to Helsinki by ferry
Private transfer from your hotel to Tallinn ferry port.
Ferry From Tallinn To Helsinki Tourist Class (Direct)
Your tickets will be pre-purchased according to your preferred departure time.
Tourist Class seats are unnumbered places, so you can choose where and how you spend your time travelling. Visit the restaurants, shops, or sit on the deck in the fresh air.

Upon arrival in Helsinki our driver will meet you in the arrivals hall of Helsinki ferry terminal and drive you to your hotel (they will be holding a sign with your name on it). Welcome to Finland!
Day 5 - Helsinki
Helsinki Walking City Tour (2 Hour)
Our local Helsinki guide will meet you at your hotel and take you for a 2 hour walking tour of Helsinki - the perfect way to get your bearings. The guide will go at your pace and if there is anything in particular you would like to see or do - please say! Our guide will be on hand to offer advice on what to see, how to travel around, and to recommend some of their favourite cafes and restaurants too. Should you wish to take any independent tours in the afternoon, our guide can advise on how to do this, eg taking the ferry from Helsinki centre to Suomenlinna fortress, or a trip out to a public sauna (great fun!)
Day 6 - Helsinki (Porvoo Half Day Trip)
Half Day Trip To Porvoo
Join this guided half-day (4-hour) trip from Helsinki to the idyllic town of Porvoo with its well preserved wooden houses and picturesque cobble-stoned streets. The city's town plan is from the Middle Ages, the low small houses, picturesque yards and narrow streets form a historicallyunique wooden town milieu. The symbols of Porvoo – the red warehouses on the riverbanks – tell the story of seafaring and trading.

Day 7 - End of tour

In Minsk our guide Helen was spectacular. She was very informative and accommodated changes as we went along. It was a real treat to visit her parents and their dacha. We had dinner at her parents restaurant. This was a real treat and we enjoyed the experience as well as meeting and dining with her parents. This is what we really like. Her husband was our guide on the day out in Riga but unfortunately the car developed a problem. Jurga came out with another vehicle. It was great to meet her having had so many e-mail conversations. It was a great idea that we go to St. Petersburg via Helsinki (a very cool city!)...the ferry and high-speed train were efficient and quite comfortable. The choice of hotels suited us perfectly...thanks for placing us so centrally in each city. The hotel in Tallinn was the most luxurious, but even at the more modest places in Vilnius and Riga, the location and the warm and helpful hotel staff made our stays delightful. And the manor house was remarkable. Every one of our drivers and guides exceeded our expectations. The walking tours were informative, meaningful, and great fun.

At last I am getting back on our wonderful trip to the Baltics and St. P. It all went great. We particularly enjoyed and were impressed by Linas in Lithuania. He's an endless source of info and a lot of fun. Jurga was terrific and we did make a requested last minute change in St P which she handled with great efficiency. I think her management skills, task and choices were perfect for us in the Baltics. She is a consummate professional. The trip was excellent. All your arrangements worked like clockwork, and we were well spoiled. The guides were all delightful in their own different ways, especially Linas and Aldis. I was relatively surprised to find how modern looking, clean and civilised all the States were; and the roads are a damned sight better than ours. People everywhere were delightful. The guides we had were exceptional! Kertu - told us so much about living in Communist times and brought the whole city to life. Inga, in Riga, really knows about architecture as she is working on her PH.D in that field. Thank you or someone for Ieva! We had a great time talking about nature, schools, etc. So, in all, everyone one was well or over-qualified to talk with us about cities, countries, communism, cooking and other stuff! Oh, I forgot Vickie, who took us to the Curonian Spit. What a fun, upbeat person! She brought a picnic lunch for us so we could sit and enjoy it on the hilltop above Nida, where the German writer's home is located.

ESTONIA WAS FANTASTIC, SO MANY THANKS TO YOU AND YOUR STAFF
Estonia was fantastic, so many thanks to you and your staff (particularly Jurga) for arranging everything for us. Many highlights but in particular the cookery class at Mer Mer was unique (our guide Ivo took the recipes for the salmon and duck dishes we made - appreciate if you could ask him to forward on please?); the hotels were very very good, dinner at the Tchaikovsky was an unforgettable experience and the bog walking and canoeing in Soomaa was great fun. The dawn and evening safaris they run there to watch the beavers looked really good, albeit April would be a cold month to do that in. Tallinn was also a lovely city to spend a couple of days and nice to see it prior to tourist season. All the guides were excellent too. Our 7 yr old daughter had a fab time too!

We really enjoyed the trip to the Baltics and had a great time. MORE LIKE A FRIEND THAN A GUIDE
The organisation of our trip was very professional and ran like clockwork. It was great to have everything organised and to not worry about driving or finding places of interest. We met some lovely tour guides especially Vicky in Palanga who was a fantastic host and felt more like a friend than a guide. We were pleasantly impressed by the standards of Eastern Europe and enjoyed the food and reasonable prices too. We would definitely recommend the baltics to our friends. In fact our 22 year old son said we could even leave him in Lithuania!

Thanks we had a great trip, the hotels you picked for us were lovely, good locations and interesting buildings. The guide in Helsinki was really nice and took us to some places that we would not have thought of, including the university library building. Most of all it was great to know we could contact Jurga at any time so I would like to especially thank her for her help.

Dear Sarah, We really enjoyed ourselves. Helsinki and Tallinn are both great places to visit in very different ways. We loved the laid back atmosphere in Helsinki and walking by the sea right by the city centre. Tallinn is stunningly beautiful. Every corner you go round brings another amazing view. We were very happy with the way you had organised our holiday. The hotels were both excellent and all the pick ups were right on time. All in all we had a great time and enjoyed it from start to finish.

EVERY ASPECT OF THE HOLIDAY WORKED WELL
I would like to thank Baltic Holidays for the well organised holiday that was organised for my friend and I in August. We visited St Petersburg, Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius. Every aspect of the holiday worked well. Our accommodation was very comfortable, our guides informative and our drivers excellent. All staff were very punctual and polite. Dear Jurga, We arrived home safe and sound on Saturday afternoon and, now, our minds are full of wonderful memories of a very enjoyable trip.
